UNC Charlotte College of Education Pathway To Teaching – More Information

Master of Arts in Teaching

Become the teacher you have always wanted to be and earn a Master’s degree in the process.

The College of Education at UNC Charlotte offers the Master of Arts in Teaching that leads to both initial and advanced teacher licensure.

In Phase One, this exciting program will build on your bachelor’s degree in an appropriate content field and guide you toward becoming a “highly qualified” and “fully licensed” teacher.

  • Prepare for teaching and the “initial” license before entering the classroom OR clear your “provisional” (lateral entry) license while teaching
  • Become an effective, professional, decision-making teacher
  • Learn practical applications solidly grounded in theory and research

In Phase Two, you will be teaching full-time in your own classroom.
  • Become a self-reflective master teacher
  • Develop advanced competencies as a teacher-researcher and a teacher-leader
  • Earn the advanced license and a 10% pay raise (after 2 years of teaching)

* Traditional classroom instruction and online courses are available.

Not sure you want a master’s degree?  The Graduate Certificate in Teaching program is another option for you.  It leads to the initial license in your field, and the graduate courses in this program can be later applied to the M.A.T. (within the Graduate School’s six-year time limit).
